Dr. Byrd explains how, “science that is more inclusive” and “represents the experience of multiple ethnic groups — especially African Americans — is better science.”

“Research hasn’t valued our lives, our voices, our presence…and projects like CEDAR are flipping that whole story around.” CEDAR is an effort to increase the participation of Black and African American participants who are already in the Brain Health Registry.

Only scientists working on this project will have access to your responses.

Be the Lead. Be the Change.

Start from your computer

You can register on your phone, but you’ll need access to a computer to complete the survey. If you don’t have one at home, you can always use one from the public library closest to you. Tell us a little bit about your lifestyle, medical history, and health.

Dedicate 1 hour to questions

Take your time to complete all the exercises. These exercises test your memory strength at this moment. If you need any help, don’t hesitate to ask a friend or a family member.

Repeat after 6 months

Every time you repeat the exercises and go through brain challenges again, we get to keep track of your health. This helps us also notice different patterns and learn from them.

Are you worried about a loved one’s brain health?

If you have concerns about your loved one’s memory, encourage them to take part in this study and let them know you’ll be their Study Partner. A study partner is a person that knows you well and can answer questions about how well you function in your everyday life.

Study Partners must be 18+

Be part of the community that is ensuring we bridge the knowledge gap and support equal representation in health studies.

“African Americans, who are underrepresented in many health studies, will be able to be represented properly. We can possibly find treatments for Alzheimer’s, which affects the African American community disproportionately. ”

“When I need a car repair, I go to the mechanic; when I need a haircut, I go to the barber. We have scientists and researchers who have gone to school and worked in Alzheimer’s research for 20 years They are the experts and I trust in their research.”

“I became involved with CEDAR as a result of an email that I received. It sparked my attention greatly due to a large family history of Alzheimer’s and Dementia. You’ll find that it’s gratifying to know that you’re doing something to not only help yourself but your family and your country. It was a great thing to do.”
